FAQ: Drawing Display Mode

Applicable Model:Magic Drawing Pad

I. Hardware Compatibility

1. Is MDP1221 the only product model that supports Drawing Display Mode? Will other product models support it via future software updates?

Currently, only the MDP1221 product model natively supports Drawing Display Mode (Hardware). This feature relies on a dedicated hardware circuit design and cannot be enabled on other product models via a software update.

2. Are there any minimum hardware requirements for PCs or Macs when connecting to a computer and using Drawing Display Mode?

This feature uses a pure hardware DP input. The CPU and GPU performance of most mainstream computers is sufficient to support it. Your computer needs to support DP display output, either directly via a USB Type-C port or through a DP-to-Type-C adapter.

3. What specific protocols must the computer's Type-C port support?

It must support DisplayPort Alternate Mode (DP Alt Mode).

Compatible: Thunderbolt 3/4, USB4, and full-featured Type-C ports.

Incompatible: Standard Type-C ports that support only charging and data transfer, and USB 2.0 Type-C ports.

4. My computer only has an HDMI or DP port, not a Type-C port. Can I use an adapter?

Yes, you can. However, for the best drawing experience, the One-Cable Instant Link is highly recommended.

II. Connection & Setup

5. To use Drawing Display Mode, what specifications of USB-C cables are required? Do I have to use the original cable?

Minimum requirement: USB 3.2 Gen 1 (or higher), full-featured Type-C cable supporting DP Alt Mode.

Original cable (recommended): Specially optimized to ensure stable high-bandwidth signal transmission.

Standard charging cables (not supported): They lack the necessary pins for video transmission and cannot recognize the DP signal.

6. Will the tablet automatically enter Drawing Display Mode once connected to a computer? Do I need to confirm manually?

By default, a mode selection pop-up window will appear automatically. Tap "DP-in Screen Sharing" to enter the mode.

7. Will the tablet be charged while connected to a computer?

Yes. It supports charging while you draw, so you don't need to worry about the battery running out. The charging power depends on the power output capability of your computer's Type-C port.

8. Will other apps running in the background of the Android system continue to run once Drawing Display Mode is active?

No. All background apps will be completely suspended. You must exit this mode to return to the Android desktop and resume other operations.

III. Drawing Experience & Performance

9. When Drawing Display Mode is used, do the 16K pressure and tilt sensitivity features require a driver to be installed on the computer?

They support driver-free plug-and-play. However, if you need to reconfigure or calibrate the stylus, you must install the specific computer driver, which can be downloaded from the "Drivers" section of the XPPen official website.

10. Will the tablet's display resolution and refresh rate change after connecting to a computer?

Yes. Currently, this mode only supports 1080p 60Hz for extended displays.

11. Can I still use the tablet's multi-touch feature after connecting it to a computer?

The tablet supports gesture controls on Windows, but not yet on macOS.

12. When the tablet is connected to a computer, does the screen color follow the tablet's settings or the computer's settings?

It follows the Android settings.

IV. Software & Limitations

13. Does Drawing Display Mode support the second screen and mirror modes?

Yes. Both modes are supported.

14. What happens if I accidentally unplug the cable while drawing? Will unsaved artwork be lost?

The tablet will automatically switch back to the Android system without freezing or lagging.

Your artwork will not be lost. All drawing operations occur within the software on the computer, and the data is saved on the computer's hard drive.

Once reconnected, you can immediately resume your previous work without any extra steps.

15. When the tablet is connected to a computer, do the tablet's speaker and headphone jack output sound from the computer or the tablet?

By default, they output computer audio. You can also switch to the computer's speakers in the computer's sound settings. The tablet's Android audio will be automatically muted to avoid interference.

16. When the tablet is connected to a computer, can I use the tablet's camera and microphone for video conferencing?

Currently, this feature is not supported.
